Technical and historical notes from Greg

The old Muse application was removed from this web site in mid October 2007 because it was not suitable for expansion into a far more sophisticated application suitable for navigating around the Nancy Street music library database.

In late September 2007 I began creating a desktop foms application called Mica which browses and manages the Nancy Street music database (see Music Database Design). The Mica screenshot below shows how the application is constructed of independent 'gadget' windows that can be moved around to produce the most convenient layout. Gadgets can be combined in various combinations to create different 'views' of the database information.

When hobby time permits, a new web application called Mica Music Web will slowly expand under this part of the web site. It is planned to be a simplified version of the Mica desktop application, with web gadgets combined in various ways on different web pages to create different views of the music database.

The pages you are seeing here now in this web site are mostly experimental, preparing for the creation of the real site. The layout, styles and features will slowly mutate into the real site.

The Mica Music Web application is being created with Visual Studio 2005 and ASP.NET 2.0.
