Photos from Saturday afternoon on the 28th of October 2006. The photos are presented in time sequence. The initial photos are taken from a scenic flight on the DA-40 Diamond Star light aircraft. The latter photos were taken after the scenic flight when friends gathered at the Aero Club restaurant at Moorabbin Airport (aka The Harry Hawker Airport). Click the links to display enlargements in a pop-up window. The Medium sized images are 600x450 and the Large are 1024x768. Pictures of the DA-40 on the ground can be seen on John's 60th Birthday gallery page.
| Just after take-off. Somewhere maybe around Mordialloc on the way south, looking out over Port Phillip Bay. |
Looking back towards Beaumaris. In the lower left is the Mordialloc shopping centre and foreshore parks and beach. |
| Not quite sure where this is. Perhaps looking towards the Patterson Lakes area (I'll know when we identify the golf course on the street directory). |
Not sure where this is either. Perhaps on the way towards Frankston. This will also require a street directory look-up. |
| Heading over Mt. Martha. The inlet on the middle left is the development project that will become the tacky new Martha Inlet, complete with high-rise buildings (our own mini Gold Coast). |
Further down the Peninsular. |
| Looking south across the peninsular near Sorrento, heading towards Pt Nepean. |
The Mud Islands are 5.7km from the closest point on the Pensinsular and 10.3 km from the tip of Pt Nepean. |
| Over the top of Mt Martha. |
The Queenscliff ferry can be seen returning to Portsea.. |
Looking almost directly down on Pt Nepean at the tip of Mornington Peninsular. The area was opened to the public for guided tours in 1987. |
Looking back along the Peninsular over the commonwealth land to Portsea. Part of the area is a national park and a large part is off limits due to unexploded ordinance of WWII vintage. |
After an aerial loop looking back over the commonwealth land to Pt Nepean. |
Over Aspendale heading back towards Mordialloc an Braeside to the airport. |
The lovely "glass cockpit" of the DA-40. Our exact position can be seen on the GPS display on the right. |
Looking over Rossdale Golf Club in Aspendale towards Mt Dandenong in the distance. |
Mordialloc pier in the middle foreground. The CBD skyline can be seen on the middle horizon |
Banking over Cheltenham on approach to the airport. |
Over the Heatherton golf course heading directly towards runway 17 right. |
Lunch at the Moorabbin airport resturant. Thank you all my friends who came along to soften the blow of the arrival of real middle-age. |

What was I thinking?. |
A motion blurred photo at home after the flight and lunch. The photos have been dumped from Warren's digital camera to the laptop. |
