During the late 70s and early 80s, Oui magazine often contained cutting-edge articles about movies, music and popular culture. It was a bit like a mild R-rated version of Rolling Stone magazine. It was thanks to Oui that I heard about The Ramones, Aerosmith, Leon Redbone and many other outsider musicians. It was also the first time I heard about The Blues Brothers movie, back in 1980 long before it became a cult film in Australia (see the scanned pages from August 1980 below). Also scanned are pages of movie reviews of The Thing, Start Trek II, Tron, Blade Runner and Megaforce from some 1982 issues. Very sadly, around 1990 the magazine suddenly degenerated into a sleazy porn format without any interesting content and I stopped buying it. I've always wondered what caused that catastrophic change.
