Blues Brothers Review | |

In August 1980, Oui magazine published a review of the recently released Blues Brothers Movie, claiming its $30 million dollar budget to be a new record for comedy movies. I read this fabulous review years before the movie became a cult favourite in Australia, and as a result my friends wondered how I new so much about this "new movie" when it became a hit. In the late 70s and early 80s, Oui magazine had a soft porn format, but it contained some of the best music and movie reviews of the time mixed with hilarious and cutting social commentaries and interviews. Very sadly, in the late 80s the format suddenly changed to an XXX rated format, all intellectual content vanished and it became a tawdry rag. The current web site for the magazine persists the hard core porn format. If anyone knows why this change happened, please let me know [email ]. It was a music review in a 1977 issue of Oui where I first ever heard of a punk rock group called The Ramones. Within days I had purchased the LP of Ramones Leave Home, and the rest, as they say, is history. I have fond memories of the early issues of Oui magazine Greg (07-Jan-2003) |
