Over the previous decade I have written and used a few applications for managing our personal collectibles such as CDs, DVDs, books, etc. The previous apps depended upon SQL Server Express as the underlying database, which made them unsuitable for distribution to other people who might have like to use them. The old apps also suffered from design limitiations because they were not sufficiently generalised to allow you to define collections of arbitrary objects.
In mid 2011 I was compelled to begin a new collection management application called Jade. The main force of compulsion was the neverending release of new software development tools by Microsoft and their rapid adoption by the .Net development community. In this case it was SQLite and Entity Framework 4 which triggered the abandonment of old apps with old technology and the creation of a the new Jade project.
Some historical infomation on the Jade database can be found on the Database Design page. Click HERE to see a zoom-out screenshot of the EDMX designer diagram of the current database.
